Do you have a single or multiple missing teeth? Are you embarrassed by your missing teeth? Are you looking for a solution that will allow you to eat more easily and speak more clearly than you can you now?

At Acorn Dental Care, we can use a single-tooth dental implant to replace a tooth you have lost, perhaps due to an accidental injury, decay, or infection.

Am I a suitable candidate for a dental implant?

Dental implants are suitable for anyone missing a tooth, except adolescents whose jawbone is still growing.

Anyone with missing teeth is a candidate for dental implants. You will be asked to complete a medical history and to confirm your physical well-being.

What are the benefits of dental implants?

• A beautiful and natural-looking smile
• Clearer speech
• Improved biting and chewing ability
• Stabilise your teeth from drifting
• No maintenance beyond normal oral hygiene and regular dental cleaning and exams

What is the dental implant procedure?

Dental implant placement is a straight forward procedure. After the initial implant consultation, it will be necessary to do a radiographic examination which will include both 2D and 3D (CBCT scan) x-rays. Using this information, our implant dentists will plan your implant procedure. On the day of implant placement, after numbing the location, your dentist will surgically insert the implant(s). Following implant placement, you will be given post-operative instructions and medication.

After 3 months when the healing process is complete, your custom crown will be placed.

What should I expect after you place my implant?

You may initially experience some discomfort after having an implant placed. You can alleviate any discomfort and tenderness with over-the-counter painkillers. Good oral hygiene is essential during the healing phase.

It is also vital you follow any post-operative advice our implant dentist gives you to promote the healing process. This advice may include a short-term soft-food diet to avoid putting substantial pressure on your implant in the early stages of healing.

How should I care for my dental implant?

You can care for your dental implant in the same way you look after your natural teeth. Continue to follow a good oral hygiene routine and schedule regular check-ups as recommended by our implant dentist.

How long does a dental implant last?

You may have heard the lifespan of a dental implant is 25 years or more, which is true, as long as you take proper care of them. Whether dental implants last forever is influenced by a variety of factors, such as:

• How well you take care of your dental implants, like daily flossing and brushing, seeing a dentist every six months.
• Avoiding chewing or biting down on extremely hard items, like pen tips or pencils, and not opening things with your teeth.
• How skilful your dentist is at placing your dental implant. Experts know how to evaluate the progress of osseointegration and whether your jawbone has completely absorbed the implant.
• Your lifestyle and overall health.
