Traditional dentures fix directly onto the patient’s gums via suction, while some supplement this with dental adhesive for additional stability. However, this method of denture wear simply does not work for everyone.
At Acorn Dental Care, we can provide our denture-wearing patients with a row of dental implants to help them keep their dentures secure with the use of a ball and socket connection. Dental implants fix directly to your jaw and provide support for your dentures, so they no longer need to attach to your gums. This method allows for a more natural and comfortable feel.
Your dentist will place implants along your jawline under a local anaesthetic and IV sedation if required. Most implant-retained dentures use 4 implants, but your case may require more.
In most cases, we can fit your dentures immediately. Your dentist will first fit an abutment onto your implants, which may be small, ball-shaped studs or a bar, depending on the type of dentures we fit for you.
Once your dentures are in place, we will check they fit correctly, feel comfortable, and allow a proper bite.
Our implant dentist will assess whether you qualify for implants by examining your gums and jaw.
However, some conditions preclude patients from a dental implant procedure such as periodontal disease or significant bone loss in the jaw.
A set of implant-retained dentures will restore your confidence to smile, speak, and chew, as well as your facial aesthetics.
Remove your dentures and use a soft toothbrush and a denture cleanser to remove any trapped food particles. Do not use abrasive cleaners like bleach products or whitening toothpaste. Take them out every night and soak them in denture cleanser to disinfect them.
