There are many teeth alignment issues that we can correct with Invisalign®:
• An overbite, underbite, or crossbites
• Crooked or crowded teeth
• Gaps between teeth
To start the process, your dentist will take a 3D scan of your teeth and gums. They will use these images to map out how much each tooth needs to shift and in what direction to improve the aesthetic appearance of your smile.
The computer program, otherwise known as a ‘Clincheck,’ will also provide you with an accurate idea of how you can expect your teeth to look when your treatment is complete.
We then send this information to the Invisalign® laboratory, where a technician will produce a series of clear plastic aligners bespoke-made for you.
These aligners gradually move your teeth into the desired position. You will wear each aligner in the set for two weeks at a time, swapping to the next one after the two weeks is over.
You will have to see your dentist every four weeks to check on your progress.
You need to wear your aligners for 20-22 hours per day for the best results.
Compared to traditional orthodontic treatments, Invisalign® offers several benefits:
• The aligners are almost invisible
• No brackets or wires
• Removable for eating brushing, and flossing
Treatment time varies depending on the initial condition of your teeth and the results you want to achieve. For adults, Invisalign® takes 12-18 months on average but can take as little as 28 weeks.
Most patients wear Invisalign® retainers once they finish their treatment to ensure their teeth don’t relapse to their former position.
You can remove your aligner at mealtimes, so there are no restrictions on what you can eat or drink. You should brush and floss before putting your aligner back in.
When you first begin Invisalign® treatment, your aligner may temporarily affect your speech for the first few days, as your tongue will take time to adjust. Any speech impediment should disappear after a day or two.
